FECA Schedule Award Calculator
Reached Maximum Medical Improvement? Estimate your OWCP schedule award using the OWCP Procedure Manual percentage table (PM Ch. 2-0808, Exhibit 1) under 5 U.S.C. § 8107.
How FECA Schedule Awards Are Calculated
10% impairment × 244 weeks (hand) = 24.4 weeks → rounded to 24 weeks 2 days
24.4 weeks × $400/week × 75% = $7,320
Reach Maximum Medical Improvement (MMI). Your physician must state in writing that your condition has stabilized and MMI has been reached, with the specific date.
Get an impairment rating using the AMA Guides, 6th Edition. OWCP requires the 6th Edition specifically. The rating must include the methodology, tables used, and objective measurements.
OWCP applies the PM percentage table. Your impairment percentage is applied to the statutory maximum weeks for your body part (per § 8107), then rounded to the nearest day using a 5-day workweek.
Submit Form CA-7 with the rating report. File to your OWCP district office with all supporting diagnostic documentation (X-rays, MRIs, EMGs, etc.).
Award is paid as ongoing weekly compensation — not a lump sum. At 66⅔% of weekly pay (no dependents) or 75% (with dependents) for the calculated number of weeks and days.
Tips for Maximizing Your Schedule Award
- Ask your physician to show the specific AMA Guides 6th Edition tables, page numbers, and measurements used — OWCP will scrutinize the methodology
- If OWCP requests an independent medical examination (IME), you have the right to submit a rebuttal rating from your own physician
- Pre-existing impairment to the same body part will be apportioned out — your physician must address this explicitly in the rating
- A schedule award does not end your right to future wage-loss compensation if your condition worsens
- Use the Medical Evidence Checklist (Schedule Award) to make sure your physician's report is complete
- If your award is denied or the rating is disputed, the Appeal Assistant can guide your next steps
